Wood Carving of Jesus for Sisters of St. Joseph Church in Holyoke Mass.
This photograph is in a private collection and depicts Jesus. It was commissioned by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Holyoke, MA. The photo is undated, perhaps late 60s.
The Sisters of St. Joseph still exist, but the Holyoke “Mont Marie” motherhouse/church site is no longer their main home/headquarters.
The group is now officially listed as Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, with its main contact address at 577 Carew Street, Springfield, MA. Their website is active and shows recent 2025 events.
Their former Holyoke campus, Mont Marie, was sold in 2014. Reports say the sale included the Mont Marie property and health care center, and the congregation moved its administrative offices back to Springfield.
However, the 2014 sale agreement said the Sisters would retain use of parts of the Mont Marie property, including its chapel and cemetery, through a lease agreement.
The Sisters of St. Joseph church/chapel at Mont Marie in Holyoke, it does not appear to function as their main public church or headquarters anymore. The active congregation is based in Springfield now.
